Benthos are  organisms that living in or on the sediment/rocks or any other substratum in water bodies. They are categorized in different groups based on the place they live and based on feeding mode.  Based on size they are classified as Macro, meio and microbenthos. They have a key role in regulating the trophic status in an aquatic ecosystems.They regulate the energy cycle in aquatic ecosystems and integral part of biogeochemical cycle. Benthic community is very  fascinating  and diversified organisms in the aquatic world.
